After subduing the crazed inventor Stahlmast and saving the city of Hupperdook from his dangerous designs and exploding kobolds… Warryn returned to the monotonous life working the forges in Hupperdook. By day, the genasi honed his spellcraft and aptitude in bending heat and fire to his will. By night, he would outsmart tourists in bars, with his friend Tank by his side.
One day, months later, cleaning up after a hard day’s work, Raven fluttered down to Warryn’s shoulder. The bird pecked lightly at his head, holding a letter out. Curious, Warryn took the letter from his familiar’s beak and saw his name scrawled on the front. Flipping the letter over, he spied a thick wax seal bearing the emblem of the Cerberus Assembly. Cracking it and opening the letter, Warryn reads:
Warryn,
I wanted to write you earlier, but I have been preoccupied. The threads you uncovered with Stahlmast’s arrest have been helpful in an investigation of mine. I couldn’t risk telling you more before, but now things have mostly been resolved. Stories of espionage, betrayal, lust for power, and a surprisingly adorable weasel may reach your ears more fully in time. But for now, trust that your work has been instrumental in rooting out spies of the Dynasty.
In reward for your good behaviour, dedication to your studies, and show of devotion to our cause, I am granting you official leave from Hupperdook. When I call on you, you must return of course. But for now, consider yourself free to come and go within the Empire as you wish. I have enclosed documentation for you to keep on your person, in case you run into any trouble with authorities. It details proof of your status, a Fellow of the Hall of Erudition and Ward of the Dwendalian Empire. I assume you’ll take this opportunity to travel and continue to develop your skills.
When you are ready, please come visit me in Zadash.
Headmaster Oremid Hass, Archmage of Cultivation
Pocketing the letter, Warryn made his way home to share the good news with his ravenite roomate.
Warryn’s previous adventure story is detailed in A Huperdook Adventure.
